Karen has been involved with Music Ministry in the Catholic Church since the 70's. She has studied voice with Prof. Jim Turner of Kalamzoo College, and has enjoyed singing in several community groups over the years, including The Kalamazoo Bach Festival, and the Metropolitan Detroit Chorale. Karen currently is a cantor at the St. Ephrem Catholic Community in Sterling Heights, Michigan, a wedding vocalist, and an Oratorio solist. It wasn't until the 90's though that she began expressing her faith in some original works. Life being what it is (busy) composition took a back seat for many years. But through encouragement of family, friends, and music associates, along with the desire to share her faith, and the "good things" the Lord had been doing in her life, the writing of most of this collection called "Hopeful Silence", came very naturally over a period of months in 2008. Most dear to her in this CD is "The Lost Ones". As Karen puts it, "I really feel this song was a direct and nearly instantanious inspiration from the Holy Spirit, which came to me one evening after watching a music video on the internet showing the funerals for aborted babies. This song seemed to well up and pour out of my heart." Karen's hope is that, The Lost Ones, can play a part in energizing and inspiring others to take a stand for the unborn, especially those who would say they are personally opposed to abortion, but feel that others should have a 'choice'. "The images of the frail, lifeless, mutilated bodies of these little aborted children is almost more than I can comprehend as being real. Is it possible that those who believe in 'choice' can look at such images and say this is a good thing, or, perhaps they 'turn their eyes away' and this reality is something they choose to keep out of their consciousness. Karen asks for everyone to prayerfully search their hearts and learn what the Lord is convicting them to do for this cause.
